CoverGirl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation Review

Hi all! I hope your weekend has been happy and productive (or not, if that’s what you want to accomplish!). I once again (twice, if you caught it earlier) changed my blog name. I’ll tell you, I’m such a lunatic perfectionist when it comes to these things. I’ll sit here and think and think trying to come up with something better, and then even better, and I don’t know why I do this because I’d be changing it at least once a month for the rest of my life at the rate I’m going.. I have. to. stop. I get into these modes where I just obsess about it and it’s sooo unhealthy and ridiculous. I don’t want to keep changing it and confusing people (and myself), so I’m going to try to just let it be, be happy with it, and put the obsessing over it to a halt because it’s just getting out of control. Also, for some reason when I’ve chosen to follow someone’s blog, I’ll check out a new post or something afterward and it gives me the option to follow the person when I already have.. I don’t know if my blog is automatically un-following people or if when I click follow the first time, it just isn’t registering correctly, but if I follow you and then all of a sudden I’m not, it’s not on purpose, I promise! It’s really starting to annoy me because it’s happening pretty frequently. Is this happening to any of you too or is it just me? Hmm.

Anywho, today I’m reviewing one of my more recent drugstore finds. I love searching through Walgreens’ cosmetic aisles for those bright orange stickers!! If you shop there, you know what I mean… CLEARANCE! The CoverGirl Whipped Creme foundations are on clearance at pretty much every Walgreens I’ve visited in the past few weeks. After debating maybe 3-4x during different visits, I decided to pick one up. I think they were about $4.50 or so and I had a coupon for $3 off a CoverGirl foundation, so I really only ended up paying around $1.50 which is pretty freakin’ awesome!

I ended up buying this in the color Soft Honey (#355). What’s funny is I was actually going to buy the CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fab 3-in-1 Foundation in this color (I used to wear Soft Honey yeeears ago in their Clean Liquid Foundation) but I didn’t go through with it because it looked way too light in the bottle. I don’t know how consistent the shades are between each of their foundations, but this specific foundation might be one of the closest color matches, if not THE closest color match I’ve ever had, which is saying a LOT because I’ve probably sampled at least 50 foundations in the past year.

The name of the foundation speaks for itself – whipped. So it’s pretty much what I expected. Thick and fluffy, not runny at all.

I wouldn’t say this was difficult to apply, but it was different and took some getting used to. Since it’s so thick, it wasn’t as easy to buff into my skin as my normal liquid foundations. I had to work a little quicker than usual to buff it out before it set in. The first time I tried it, I used my Real Techniques Stippling Brush and it was kind of hard to work with, I just feel like it didn’t buff out so well.  I think my Tarte Airbrush Foundation Brush actually works a lot better because it’s much more wide, thick and dense so it spreads the foundation around more easily and gives it a more even finish. I’m no foundation expert, but I would guess that this might not be great for those with dry skin, since it is such a thick consistency with such a matte finish. I have combination skin – normal skin around my cheek area and very oily around my nose and chin. I can’t do super dewy foundations due to that, but I do prefer a semi-dewy, natural looking glow over a pure matte. This is very matte, but it does a really good job of suppressing the oil for a longer period of time.

I have a before (don’t judge!) and after picture of the coverage. I did apply 2 coats as I usually do just to make sure I have all my freckles, scars, discoloration, and any breakouts covered as much as possible before I apply my concealer.

The right photo is foundation only, no concealer or anything applied yet, so you can get an idea of the coverage. You can see it did even out my skin and covered my dark circles, scarring and freckles a bit. I could’ve built this up with another layer, but I’d rather use concealer to finish the job than cake on another layer of foundation and have it start to look unnatural or obvious. I think it does a good job, coverage-wise. I’m also satisfied with the lasting power – After 8 hours of wear, I do have visible oily spots around my nose and chin (without setting with powder) which is bound to happen with me, but my cheeks look as though they’ve been untouched.

I’m really surprised with this because foundations, whether they’re drugstore or higher end, usually never work out for me (color-wise). The first thing I’m always concerned with is color matching because it’s so hard for me to find a perfect match.. I always feel that if I do find one, I’ll work with it even if I don’t love the formula because a perfect match for me is extremely rare. Though I’m really thrilled about the color, that probably won’t last long since summer’s right around the corner – I tend to get about 2-3 shades darker during those months, so it kinda makes foundation shopping difficult and annoying. The formula, despite its matte-ness will probably grow on me, it’s just not what I’m used to. But it’s actually better aesthetically because of my oil issues. I could always mix in a bit of my tinted moisturizer to give my skin a little more glow too!

Final verdict: I will deem this one a drugstore win!
